"Horseshoe Falls, Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada: The churning waters of the great Niagara plunge gracefully to the churning, boiling, turbulence of the Maid of the Mist Pool"
Does the hand flow freely? is it controled by an inner drive? How do you choose the images? Are those places you've been to or places you would like to visit? Is this a form of personal graffitti?
I keep my arm/hand as loose as possible. Sometimes I sit facing forward on the bus, sometimes in the sideways seats- each producing different marks. It depends a lot on who is around me. The postcards are random, from the thrift store- of course I would like to visit these places. I wonder if some of them are still around- thinking about how some of these postcards are really old- do these landscapes still exist?
I collect old postcards from thrift stores. I place them in an envelope titled 'vacation destination.' When I ride the bus I take one out and uncap a Sharpie marker and place it in the middle of the postcard. As the bus stops and sways, jerks and slides- the Sharpie does too. These drawings serve as a record of my daily commute- the least exciting of trips- marked on top of an image representing the most exciting of trips... the ones where you stop and buy postcards...
The drawings are catalogued by the date the bus ride/drawing was made, not by the date I posted it to this site. Click on the images for a larger view! Really- they look better larger!
